Temporary Roof Scaffolding Installation in Upper Bucklebury near Reading
Thames Valley Scaffold were instructed to install a temporary roof structure over the property by a local builder and his client, the property was having a rear extension to form a new kitchen. To pitch the new roof on the extension the carpenter would need to cut into the rafters and ridges of the existing roof, this meant that the interior of the house would be exposed to the elements during this phase of the works.
As the owners were still living in the house during the building works a temporary roof covering was decided as being the best and safest option so that the build could progress. As well as keeping the existing house in the dry it also meant the builders could carry on with works regardless of the weather which will prove invaluable in reducing the build time.
This temporary roof was a bit more complicated than a typical roof over a bungalow, a spine beam had to be built to span from one side of the house to the other using 750mm X-Beams, with the roof beams then erected on top of this spine beam. Ties were not possible on this roof, so it also required buttressing to stabilise the structure, kentledge was loaded onto the base of the buttress to weigh it down and reduce the deflection loads imposed by the scaffold roof.
Monarflex side sheeting was installed on all four sides of the scaffold to prevent rain ingress during high winds.
Thames Valley Scaffold had a short window in which to erect this scaffold as the builder was keen to get back on site for the second week in January, extra labour was put onto this project and the roof was delivered in time for the builder to return to site as planned. The builder is hoping to have the building weather tight over the next few weeks so we will be back to strike it during February or March.
