298 Fulham Road, Chelsea, London, SW10
This residential property in West London required an independent scaffold for external refurbishment. Having successfully completed several scaffolds on properties on this road and in the general vicinity, Thames Valley Scaffold were approached to tender for the scaffolding works on this property. Our operations manager organised a site meeting with the client to establish the exact requirements of the scaffold to facilitate their works and from this meeting a quote was returned within a couple of days. Once the quote was accepted, our operations manager and health and safety manager conducted a full survey to identify site specific challenges that this project presented and procedures to overcome them.
Located on one of the busiest thoroughfares in London (the corner of Fulham Road and Finborough Road) this project had many sensitive issues to overcome and proved to be one our most logistically challenging scaffolds we have erected in London. The property is on a very busy intersection for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, it has pedestrian traffic lights on both elevations, it is located on a red route, there is no parking outside the building and there is also a bus stop very close to the traffic lights. All these issues had to be carefully considered and a cohesive plan decided upon in order for this scaffold to be safely completed.
Although this property is located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea it also sits on a red route, this required a street licence permit from Transport for London (TFL) and the local authority. Thames Valley Scaffold worked directly with both authorities to provide technical drawings and insurance details to secure the necessary permit to occupy the highway. The red route location also meant we required further dispensation to park the installation vehicles as close to the property as was practical while also not encroaching on the bus stop, this required a meeting on site with the TFL highways department to show the exact location we were able to park the lorry along with the necessary traffic management signage and barriers.
Thames Valley Scaffold worked closely with the main contractor and were able to implement the very considered protocols we developed in our risk assessments and method statements to ensure the project was completed without delay and in a safe manner for both staff and general public.
