The client on this project required a full perimeter scaffold for external refurbishment of windows, mortar repairs and minor roofing works.
Working with the main contractor and the surveyor we devised a schedule to split this project into stages to minimise the disruption for the residents, it was also crucial to the success of the project that access to two underground carparks were maintained at all times during the installation phase and whilst the scaffold was in place
The scaffold required elevations on three separate streets, all with differing start dates, durations and end dates. Thames Valley Scaffold applied to Southwark Council for all required licences prior to the arrival of our installation team.
The street licence to occupy the highway for all the elevations required drawings to be submitted detailing first lift height, clear accessible width underneath the scaffold and remaining distance to the kerb line. The path on one elevation was too narrow to satisfy all the requirements of the local authority (Southwark).
To keep the required accessible width under the scaffold we had to place the outside standards on the edge of the road, this required the parking bays parallel to the path had to be suspended. Thames Valley Scaffold applied for all the parking suspensions for this elevation.
To park the installation lorry within a sensible distance of the installation location, parking dispensation was applied for to suspend adjacent parking bays. A safe working cordon could then be enforced around the working area to eliminate the interaction between the general public and the install team.
Once the scaffold has been installed, the security of the scaffold is always of paramount importance on any project, and this was no different. Intruder alarms were installed on all elevations of this scaffold to detect unauthorized access on the scaffold.
